Believe me, I get it. I used to face the same problem. But let me take you back to the beginning of my story.
My brother Mike died last summer.
He and his wife saved a whole family from a forestfire, but lost their own.
Their death left a void that was almost unbearable. And suddenly, on top of my grief, I found myself playing the role of a father.
I used to be a fat unemployed gamer, spending all day watching the screen.
But one night, I decided to stop gaming forever. It was hard, but looking at the girls' hopeful eyes, I knew I was doing the right thing.
To provide for my two little kids, I started working two jobs and put in sixteen-hour days to keep the girls well fed.
I even got a gun for their safety, a big change for me since I used to be against guns. I took a gun course, met new friends at the range, and learned a lot.
My shooting got better, and I found a group of friends who were always there for me.
Along with these changes, there was another important task - finding a holster that fit well, was reliable, and would suit my big size.
This turned out to be a much tougher challenge than I thought.
I'm a big guy, spending my days seated as an Uber driver and my nights standing, serving fast food. If you're built like me, finding the right holster is like searching for a needle in a haystack.
"I just put this holster on about 15 minutes ago and moving around the kitchen, straightening up, and a few dishes washed, this Holster is extremely comfortable."
After buying a bunch of 18 holsters suggested by "Youtube gurus", I found that none of them got around the problems that us bigger folks face.
Seated Drawing: Being a guy who's seated a lot, I need a holster that won't give me a hard time when I need to draw my weapon. Seems like most holsters out there forget about us drivers.
Back Pain: Different holsters, different issues, but all leading to one thing – a backache. It's a pain like no other, trust me.
Sweat and Heat: I'm a big guy. And big guys sweat. Add a holster to the mix and you're baking in your own heat. And the sweat? That doesn't just make me uncomfortable – it's messing up my gun, too.
Accessibility: Smooth draw? Dream on. With my size, it feels like every holster's made for someone half as big.
Skin Shear and Friction: These holsters don't take into account the way they rub you raw. That kind of skin shear's enough to make a grown man cry.
Safety Concerns: At the end of the day, I've got my girls to think about. A holster that doesn't guarantee their safety? Straight in the trash.
Now, I know what some folks think. That us gun owners are reckless, that we don't think things through. But I've got to tell you, with all due respect, that couldn't be further from the truth. We put a lot of thought into gun safety. We're the most careful people you'll meet. Well, except for a few bad apples.
So if you've got a holster and it's got any of these issues, I'd suggest you think about swapping it for something else. Or even consider not carrying at all.
Because when it comes to guns, it's always better to be safe than sorry.
"I bought this with the intention of carrying a sub-compact Taurus for when I took my dog for a walk or riding my bike. This thing is so comfortable and secure that I felt confident enough to carry my full frame Beretta PX4 .40 to an event tonight under my sweatshirt. "
You know, a bad holster isn't just uncomfortable or bad for your gun. It can ruin your day and really embarrass you.
I've been there, trust me.
Like when I was driving people around, they'd give me weird looks, covering their noses.
They thought I stank, even started giving me one-star ratings, which hurt my feeling and my pocket.
At my fast-food job, folks would crack jokes about my 'sweat problem.' I tried to laugh along, pretend it didn't bother me.
The worst was at my kid's soccer game. Her friends made fun of my sweat, and seeing her upset face... that really hit me.
I realized then, this wasn't just about a holster. It was about respect, being a role model for my kids, and making a positive change for myself.
"This is an excellent product and method for concealed carry. I have configured it to carry at chest height and it works perfectly! Quick release strap allows me to arm myself within a instant. Having it on my chest also makes it super easy to access the handle and draw the weapon in an instant in times of need."
During an online search, I spotted a review by my cousin James Allen on a veteran-owned holster website.
He was praising something called the 'Praetorian Shoulder and Belly Holster.' He sent me one to try.
I was unsure at first, but wore it for a month. Turned out, this holster was a lifesaver.
The best part? I could wear it under my arm or around my belly. The flexibility was mind-blowing.
Remember how I used to be a sweaty mess with my old leather holster? No more. This holster kept me cool and dry.
But what sealed the deal was the ease of drawing my firearm, especially when I'm seated. It was as simple as reaching for my wallet in my back pocket. Just like that, I was sold. The Praetorian Shoulder and Belly Holster became my new sidekick. I rely on it every day now.
Praetorian holster became a part of me, not a bothersome attachment.
It brought positive changes that were noticed by everyone around.
It wasn't long before my passengers noticed the change.
No more shifting uncomfortably in my seat during rides, no more sweat-stained shirts. I was just their friendly, cool Uber driver. I even noticed animprovement in my ratings!
My coworkers at the fast-food place started seeing me differently, too.
The 'sweaty' taunts stopped. They were more interested in my new holster, a couple of them even bought their own Praetorian.
The biggest difference was at my daughter's school events.
No more giggles from her friends or hurtful glances. I was just her proud dad, cheering her on from the sidelines.
The respect I felt was palpable, and my decision to choose a safe and reliable holster played a big part in that.
