Would this work for .177 lead or steel BB shot from 5 meters with a Daisy 499b?
I use it with my .177cal bb rifle, and it does work. The metal sides and back of the trap do get dented, but it still works. I'm not sure how strong your bb gun is, but I would think it should still work for you too.
Can i use this with my .308? I'm tired of range fees.
Yes you can! Use in an unventilated location, quiet enough that hearing protection is not needed. My cats and infant like to play behind it while I target practice with my Remington 700 in .308, no issues so far!!!!
Will this hold up against a red ryder?
Yes. BB traps are tough. Pellet traps are lesser of the 2 when it comes to strength. The pellets are soft metal where B-Bs are harder and at same fps the B-B will do more damage.
Where does it catch the pellets?
The trap tapers down from the wide open entrance to an endong at the back. The steel is thick enough that the pellets can't go thru the "trap". After some time you just empty the misshapen pellets into the trash and start over. The free paper targets fit into the opening so that you can assess the gun's accuracy. It works well. Try it, I think you'll like it.
