OK, this was a crazy purchase, but I think it’s actually going to work quite well. I have had two bouts with skin cancer, but still want to be able to enjoy going to the lake or the ocean, and need more protection than a regular hat can provide. A lot of times the hats get wet and they don’t hold their form so they don’t provide a lot of protection. Even though this looks a little strange to be wearing out and about in the water, I think it’ll serve a really good purpose. It was pretty easy to open. It’s sort of like an umbrella and you just have to make sure that that little white/clear piece from the inside goes all the way through the top small opening of the “umbrella like covering” and it’ll lock in place. To get it to “deflate”, you just press the little clear/white button on the top of the umbrella and it’ll go back down through the hole and will deflate per see. It can get wet with the waves and hold it form and provide significant sun protection. The only thing I think they can improve upon would be making the hat portion inside adjustable as it’s a bit too big for me.

I bought this to work in the hot sun and have some protection. I thought it was more of a gag, but what the heck, the price was right. And boy was I surprised! This thing is simply fantastic! It is comfortable to wear, holds fast with the chin strap, and really does a good job of protecting you from the sun and even rain (if it's not blowing much.)

They say not to wear it when the wind is blowing hard, and I get that and I do agree. However, I was in eastern Colorado at an outside family event in the hot sun wearing this. The wind came up and was quite strong, but if I angled my head properly, I could and did still wear it. This was a challenge and if I'd failed, I'm sure the thing would have been turned inside out and maybe be damaged. So I still don't recommend wearing it in high winds, but it can be done.

I think the construction is reasonably good as is the durability, but I gave it 4 stars in these categories because I don't think any umbrella deserves a 5. The overall product and how it works definitely gets a 5!. -Susan R.
