FAQs

Will the ants and bees really stay out?

They are two different mechanisms. Ants are stopped by the moat: fill the cup on top with plain water and they will not cross it, because ants will not swim. Top it up whenever you refill the nectar, roughly once a week in hot weather, because a dry cup stops nothing. Bees are stopped by the ports: the nectar sits below the flower, far enough down that a bee cannot reach it but well within reach of a hummingbird's tongue. Keep the outside of the feeder clean and dry and the bees lose interest, because what actually draws them is spilled nectar on the shell, not what is inside.

Does it leak?

It seals without a rubber washer, which is the part that perishes and starts the drip on most feeders. Twist the base on firmly and hang it level. If yours does drip, that is exactly what the 120 day guarantee is for.

How do I clean it, and how often?

By hand, and it takes about two minutes. The base comes all the way off and the mouth takes your hand and a bottle brush. It is not dishwasher safe. Hot water and a brush is enough, no soap needed. In hot weather, every four or five days.

What do I put in it?

Four parts water to one part plain white sugar, stirred until it dissolves. Nothing else. No red dye, no honey, no brown sugar, no store bought mix. The feeder itself is already red, and red is the part the birds are looking for.
